21 - Banks

For 21 bank deposits, use a UK current account with a Visa or Mastercard debit card or open banking. Check whether your bank has a gambling block, how long it takes to lift, and whether it covers transfers as well as cards. Below, eight UK banks side by side.

How to choose a bank for 21 Casino

Most UK current accounts work at 21 Casino. The cashier accepts Visa and Mastercard debit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal and instant bank transfer through open banking, so the question is less "which bank is allowed" and more "which bank setup suits how I want to play". Four things matter.

  • Debit card type. It must be a debit card, never a credit card. Santander and Metro Bank both issue Mastercard debit cards. Whether it is Visa or Mastercard makes no difference to the cashier, which takes both.
  • Gambling block settings. Card payments to gambling sites carry merchant category code 7995, which is what banks use to block them. If you switch a block on to stay in control, it does its job. If you switch it on and forget, a deposit will simply be declined.
  • Faster Payments. This scheme runs 24/7/365, including weekends and bank holidays. The scheme limit is up to £1m per payment, but each bank sets its own lower limit, and none of the sources we checked publish a daily figure, so treat it as set by your bank.
  • Open banking. Instant bank transfer lets you approve the payment in your own banking app without typing card details. It is handy if your card is frozen, though some bank controls cover cards only.

For withdrawals, the habit that saves most time is simple: cash out to the method you deposited with. PayPal payouts are usually within 24 hours after approval, while debit cards and bank transfer take up to 5 working days. Fees, pending time and withdrawal limits are not published, so we do not quote any.

Your first withdrawal needs KYC: a photo ID and proof of address. Send them early and the bank you pick will matter far less than a clean verification.

  3. 3

Affordability checks apply at 21 Casino, so be ready to answer questions if you deposit larger amounts.

Tap a column heading to sort. The unlock wait is the time a bank needs before a gambling control comes off, which is the figure that decides whether you can deposit on the same day.

What each bank means for your cashier

Metro Bank

There is no category block here. You can freeze the card, which stops every card payment, and unfreeze it instantly. Card deposits to 21 Casino work as soon as the card is live, and its Mastercard debit card is accepted.

Halifax

The gambling control sits in the app and takes 48 hours to remove. Incoming winnings and refunds still arrive while it is on, so a payout is not the problem; the deposit is. Lift it two days ahead.

Virgin Money

We found no customer gambling block on its standard debit cards, so the details are not published. If you want one, ask the bank. Otherwise your deposits should follow your own limits at 21 Casino.

RBS

A Gambling toggle in the card payment controls blocks card deposits and needs 48 hours to remove. It does not stop bank transfers or open-banking payments, so keep that in mind if the block is for self-protection.

Santander

The Gambling Block is set by phoning the bank, with a 48 hour wait to remove it. Its Mastercard debit card works at the cashier once the block is off, so plan the call before deposit day.

Danske Bank (NI)

Northern Ireland customers can use a gambling freeze or a 30 day spend limit on debit cards. Lifting takes at least 72 hours, the longest wait in this table, so do not leave it until the evening.

Monzo

The in-app gambling block comes with a cooldown you choose, from 2 days to 1 year, before it can be lifted. Pick the length carefully: a long cooldown protects you, but it also means no card deposits to 21 Casino meanwhile.

NatWest

Like RBS, NatWest has a Gambling toggle in card payment controls with 48 hours to remove. With it on, card deposits are declined, so switch it off in good time or choose another route you control.

None of the banks above publishes a Faster Payments daily limit in the sources we used, so treat transfer limits as set by your bank.

Who this does not suit

Bank deposits are not for everyone, and that is fine. Here is when another route, or a break, makes more sense.

Works well for

  • UK players with a debit card and no active block
  • People who like approving payments in their banking app
  • Players who withdraw to the method they deposited with

Less suitable for

  • Anyone who uses a gambling block on purpose
  • Credit card users, as credit cards are banned for gambling
  • Players who want a deposit within minutes of lifting a block

If you set a block to protect yourself, please leave it in place. Waiting 48 hours is the point of it, and the delay gives you a chance to ask whether you really want to play. PayPal or Apple Pay can be quicker for some people, but they are not a way round a block you chose, so be honest with yourself about why you are lifting it.

Online slot stakes in Great Britain are capped at £5 per spin for adults aged 25 and over, and £2 for ages 18-24. If play stops being fun, use time-outs or self-exclusion at 21 Casino, register with GAMSTOP, or call the GamCare National Gambling Helpline.
